Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser to remember things between visits — like a preference, or an identifier used for analytics. Similar technologies (like localStorage) store data in your browser without being sent to a server; we use localStorage for one thing, described below.

1. Your consent choice (always, essential). When you make a choice in the cookie banner, we save it in your browser's localStorage under the key “simp-consent” so we don't ask you on every visit. This never leaves your browser, contains only “accepted” or “rejected” and a timestamp, and is strictly necessary to honor your choice.

2. Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights (always, cookieless). We use our hosting provider's built-in tools to see aggregate page views, referring sites, country-level location, and how fast pages load on real devices. They set no cookies, write nothing to your browser's storage, and don't identify you individually, so they aren't affected by your cookie banner choice. We also use them to count, anonymously, when someone clicks to book a time.

3. Google Analytics 4 (only if you accept). If — and only if — you accept, we load Google Analytics, which sets cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions:

• _ga — distinguishes visitors; expires after 13 months (we configure the shortest sensible lifetime).
• _ga_<container-id> — maintains session state; expires after 13 months.

We configure Analytics with IP anonymization, the minimum data-retention period Google offers, and Google's Consent Mode v2, which keeps everything denied until you say otherwise. We do not use Analytics data for advertising, and we have not enabled any advertising features.

4. Sign-in cookies for our private admin area (never set for visitors). When we sign in to the admin area at /admin to write and publish posts, two strictly necessary cookies are set in our own browser:

• __Host-simp_admin — keeps us signed in; expires after 12 hours or when we sign out.
• __Host-simp_admin_2fa — lasts 5 minutes, between the password and the authenticator-code steps of signing in.

• No advertising or retargeting cookies.
• No social media pixels.
• No third-party embeds.
• No cross-site tracking of any kind.
• No fingerprinting.

Click “Cookie preferences” in the footer of any page to reopen the banner and change your choice. Withdrawing consent stops analytics immediately on your next page view. You can also clear the cookies and site data for this website in your browser settings — every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies per site.

If you accepted analytics and later want the historical data gone too, email jay@simpcompany.com and we'll handle it as a deletion request under our privacy policy.
